In 2023 I was honoured to be part of the winning team for the heritage projects in Ramsgate harbour – the only Royal harbour in the country. My research created the Conservation Management Plan commissioned by Thanet District Council and covered aspects of the Grade II* designated site that had not previously been considered before.
I was invited by the harbour master, Matt Kenney, to create a presentation encouraging local stakeholders to support joining the national Heritage Harbours group, which launched in September 2024.
The Ramsgate Society asked me to share the heritage of the harbour with their members and in a series of presentations, I covered topics such as Royalty and the Everyday, the Engineers to the harbour and the Aesthetic Appeal of the harbour.
From these the inspiration to develop the topic further into a book about harbour history from 1749 to 2000 was born. Research is ongoing and it is hoped a publication date can be announced in due course.
